What About After an Abortion? |
|
Many women suffer silently from the effects that a past abortion or abortions may have caused them.
Although abortion is legal, the events leading up to and including the abortion experience are often traumatic, making the decision a very difficult one. Many women express a temporary sense of relief because the situation seems “fixed” for the moment. However, often women who have experienced abortion later begin noticing unexplainable underlying emotions.
Studies* have shown that many women experience: - a fear of others finding out
- anxiety
- helplessness
- regret
- fear of failure
- depression
- guilt
- marital stress
- assorted addictive behaviors
- psychological numbing
- and more.
Sometimes these symptoms occur within days of the abortion, but many times they may not show up until many years later.
If you or someone you know is experiencing any or all of these feelings, you are not alone.
