Women`s Care Clinic

What about parenting?

Choosing to continue your pregnancy and to parent is very challenging. But with the support of caring people, parenting classes, and other resources, many women find the help they need to make this choice.

Many single women choose to parent as singles…perhaps because the baby’s father is not supportive, or you’re no longer in a relationship with him.  Years ago, couples felt they “had to” get married if the girl became pregnant.  However, entering into marriage is a serious thing…having a baby together is not the only reason to get married.  Single moms have found they can continue school, keep their jobs, and even support themselves and their babies.  It’s not easy… but there are many programs available to help women provide things such as baby clothes and diapers.  Our BRIDGES program is one of them.  If you decide to parent your baby, you may want to be a part of this group.  (Click here for more information about BRIDGES .)

Some single women choose to get married and parent with the baby’s father.  This can be a fulfilling choice, as there is a full-time partner helping with the baby’s needs along with other daily needs.  Couples who consider marriage can often seek pre-marital counseling from a local church or professional counseling agency.  This additional step can help a marriage relationship start out strong, and sustain it for many years.

Women who are already married may be nervous about having a baby too.  Maybe you just got married, and didn’t expect this step so soon.  Maybe you have other kids, and feel you don’t have enough time, money or energy for another child.  Talking with one of our Client Advocates can give you time to sort through your concerns, and discover ways parenting can fit into your current lifestyle.  Our BRIDGES program is available to married women, as well.
